About Immersive Hearing Technologies
Immersive Hearing Technologies was built out of the Audiological Sciences Department at the University of Louisville in the Zahorik Audio Perception Lab (ZAP). Dr. Matthew Neal invented the initial Virtual Reality Listening Experience with VR Headset and wires coming out of the hearing aids. Through years of refinement with leading hearing aid manufacturers and independent hearing care professionals, we created the easiest and most convincing way to demonstrate actual hearing aid makes and models in the places you need them while at the point of decision in the clinic.
The combination of our proprietary scene capture and science back recording process is the most sophisticated facilities in the world create a powerful experience packed in to a simple delivery system -a tablet and hearing aids or Headphones. The result of years of practical application and industry research is the current tablet-based solution that provides a simple but effective way for your clients to experience the benefits hearing aids can provide.
Our story
Immersive Hearing Technologies began as a research initiative at the University of Louisville in 2020, where a team of expert research scientists set out to better understand how individuals perceive sound through hearing aids in the real-world.
What started in the lab quickly turned into something more practical. The team realized that the same technology used for research could help solve a very real problem in hearing care: giving patients a way to truly understand how hearing devices perform in real-world environments before making a purchase decision.
In 2023, the company was officially founded to bring this work out of the lab and into clinics.
Since then, the company has undergone significant customer discovery and iterations to take the product from a more elaborate version that included a virtual reality headset to Engage, the clinical tablet-based SaaS model.
Immersive worked with hearing aid manufacturers to highlight the features and benefits of today’s latest technology, deploying systems in 2025 in experience rooms across Western Europe. 2025 also featured pilot deployments of Engage in the southeastern United States.
The official Engage Clinical Tablet-based Software Release is set for spring 2026.
